Ben Kweller

My sister and I are huge Ben Kweller fans. Any time he's in town, whether we are living in Boston or New York, we go see him perform. This time, he was opening for Barenaked Ladies at Radio City Music Hall in NYC. Now I must tell you, Barenaked Ladies were awful so we only stayed for like 2.5 songs. Just couldn't take it any more. But Ben was brilliant as always. I really really missed seeing him be the headliner, because that's truly what he deserves. He's so great, and seeing him in intimate venues before like The Paradise and The Avalon and Somerville Theatre, seeing him up in the nosebleed seats of radio city was just not the same. But regardless, I am huge supporter and will always see him when possible. I was going to buy a t-shirt of his or something, but it turns out I already owned everything they had for sale in the BK merch tent. It's love.

ps. that stick is a light up stick they put in my glass of wine so they could charge me ten dollars for it. I made Jess do silly things with it. And we had a delicious dinner, too.

Home from the Best Weekend Ever!

I'm back from Newport! Don't worry, you'll get the deets soon. This photo is from the very end of the festival, when Elvis Perkins played "Doomsday" with the What Cheer? Brigade. If you click the picture, it will bring you to the Newport Folk Fest's facebook page. But for now, I have a John Mayer Concert to attend.

Why I Choose Coffee Over Water

During the week, I hate to say that it's quite possible I consume more coffee in a day than I do water. I wake up, get ready for work, pour myself a coffee, and quite possibly buy myself another coffee as soon as I get to the office. And some days, like today, a pot of coffee is readily available in the office. My eco friendly reusable coffee mug doesn't help the cause. Nor do my busy nights and weekends.

Yesterday, for example, my friends and I went to a free concert in Central Park. Taking the train to the city can be quite the trek, and it was super hot out yesterday. So once we got to Summerstage to see Victor Deme, Trevor Hall, and Jimmy Cliff, we mostly just layed down on the tapestries we brought along and drank wine that comes in a carton (Bandit- awesome) and bottles of water.

We may or may not have also attempted to use free beach balls as pillows...somewhat unsuccessfully.

By the end of the day we were all tired and sweaty, but we came back with a favorite new song:
Deen Wolo Mousso by Victor Deme.
We have no idea what the lyrics mean but we love them.

Concerts Coming Up

Though I'm pretty bummed that most of my summer vacations have come and gone so quickly, one of my favorite times of the year is still to come: The Newport Folk Festival! Last year I went it was absolutely amazing and I loved every second of it.

A couple of my friends are coming this year, too, which should be fun! I have only ever been with my family so I can't wait for my friends to experience the magic that is Newport Folk Fest.

This morning, while wallowing in my misery about the fact that I have already been to Bahamas, Italy, and the Jersey Shore, and having all of it behind me, I I realized I am actually going to A LOT of concerts in the next couple months:

Sunday: free Trevor Hall show in Central Park
Tuesday: Jack Johnson and GLove at PNC
last weeked in August: Newport Folk Fest
August 13: Ben Kweller and Barenaked Ladies
September 30th: Fun at Bell House in Brooklyn.

I went to zero concerts during the year (very weird for me) so I am happy to make all of it up now. Time to leave work now! More later :)

Get Well Soon Rivers!

I was supposed to go to a Weezer, Jacks Mannequin, and Manchester Orchestra concert tonight.
But then this horrible thing happened!
On the way to Boston to give us a spectacular concert, the ice on the road caused Rivers Cuomo's tourbus to fishtail and crash into a ditch.
He and his assistant were injured, both with broken ribs and Rivers with some internal injuries, too.
Although I am really bummed, ( I was supposed to go backstage and meet Andrew McMahon, lead singer of Jack's Mannequin, before the show. And we all know how much I love him!) I just hope Rivers gets better soon and then can deliver the amazing show that I know he'll be capable of once he heals.
Love you Rivers, my nerd hero! And Andrew, there's always next time!
They are supposed to be rescheduling all the December shows they had to cancel, so when I finally do get to meet Andrew I will DEFINITELY be letting you know, and posting pictures!

Everyone listen to Pinkerton today, maybe all the love will heal him more quickly.
